Jordan Hugill back at Hartlepool United after leaving Rotherham

Hartlepool United reinforced their attack by recruiting Jordan Hugill, a former West Ham player, freshly released by Rotherham United. Aged 34, the player leaves the Millers after their descent at the end of the season in League One. He has committed to a one-year contract at Hartlepool, with an option for an additional year, and will officially join his new club on 1 July.

This return to Hartlepool will allow Hugill to reunite with Lee Clark, his former coach at Rotherham who was appointed manager of the Pools on May 14. The player remembers with emotion his previous experience at the club in 2015, when he had scored 4 goals in 8 loan matches, including the decisive goal against Exeter City who had ensured the maintenance of the club in the Football League on the last day of the season.

Jordan Hugill had had an interesting run at Preston North End, scoring 30 goals in 114 games over three and a half years, which earned him a transfer to West Ham United in January 2018 for an amount of around £10 million. Despite this transfer, he only played three Premier League games with the Hammers without finding his way to the net.

Subsequently, he played in Norwich City and was loaned to several English clubs such as Middlesbrough, Queens Park Rangers, West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City. With his experience and knowledge of the club, Hugill brings added value to Hartlepool for the new season.
