The controversy between two goalkeepers, Stole Dimitrievski and Julen Agirrezabala, resurfaces a few days before the Liga Smartbank clash between Racing de Santander and Valencia CF. Last year, Dimitrievski claimed that there was a goalkeeper who played for Valencia solely because of his contract. He was referring to Julen Agirrezabala, then on loan from Athletic Bilbao to Mestalla.
Agirrezabala, now goalkeeper of Racing de Santander, wanted to clarify the situation in an interview given to the program ‘El partit de la una’ on the À Punt channel. He recognized that these comments do not go unnoticed, especially coming from a teammate. “It is clear that it is not pleasant to receive this kind of comments from a comrade,” he explained before this Sunday’s meeting between Santanderians and Chés.
This outing comes in a context where Agirrezabala seeks to assert his value in real time in the Racing team. His loan from the prestigious Basque club to Valencia, then his transfer to Racing, had already sparked debates about his motivations and his commitment on the field. These accusations may have affected his image, but he seems determined to demonstrate that his presence on the field is deserved.
