Akbarpour: Tajernia is there, Esteghlal does not want

Why it matters

The match between Esteghlal and Tractor is crucial in the Persian Gulf Pro League title race, with both teams occupying the top spots in the standings. The performance of Esteghlal, under the leadership of Soharab Bakhtiari-zadeh, could determine their ability to compete for the championship this season. Positive team dynamics are essential to maintaining the confidence of players and staff.

Key points

• Akbarpour: Tajernia is there, Esteghlal doesn't want it.
• Alireza Akbarpour analyzes the summit duel between Esteghlal and Tractor (week‑8) and defends the work of Ali Tajernia, explaining why the board of directors is in no hurry to appoint a general director.
• اکبرپور: تاجرنیا هست، استقلال مدیرعامل نمی‌خواهد.

The first day of the eighth week of the Iranian championship (Persian Gulf Pro League) is played on Sunday with the main event being Esteghlal's trip to Tabriz to face Tractor. A high-stakes duel: Tractor currently occupies first place in the ranking, while Esteghlal follows a length behind, and both teams stand as serious title contenders.

Asked by Iran Varzeshi about this momentous meeting, former Esteghlal midfielder Alireza Akbarpour first recalled the context: “The championship was suspended because of international matches and the teams resumed training only a few days ago. This break prevents a precise assessment of the current form of the clubs. » Despite this uncertainty, Akbarpour is optimistic about Esteghlal's state of form: “The team has started the season well and that gives confidence to the players and staff. »

He underlines the good start of the Tehran Blues: “After a long time, Esteghlal started the season in an encouraging manner and with victories, which shows that the team is in good dynamic. Soharab Bakhtiari‑zadeh, even in his first experience with Esteghlal, was able to bring the group together well and we see a more fluid team than in previous seasons. »

On the upcoming confrontation, Akbarpour believes that the two clubs are among the favorites this season: “Tractor is a solid and respectable team. The managers manage the club well and their presence at the top proves it. Under the leadership of Javad Nekounam, Tractor relies on a defensive base and it will be difficult for Esteghlal to impose a totally offensive game. I hope for a quality and enjoyable match for the spectators. »

Another theme addressed by the former player: the administrative management of Esteghlal. Akbarpour recalls that the club has been without a general manager for more than a year, but he defends the work of Ali Tajernia: “Despite the absence of a general manager for more than a year, Ali Tajernia has worked very well and managed to bring together a good team for the new season. »

According to him, it is precisely this performance which explains the caution of the board of directors: “In my opinion, the members of the board want to choose the best person for this position in order to preserve the positive dynamic of the club. They are in no hurry because Tajernia has managed the club's affairs efficiently. The position of general manager is important, but it is not on the same level as a coach or a player: the team does not suffer from absence thanks to Tajernia's work. »

Akbarpour adds that the club can find competent profiles internally or among former managers and that it naturally wants the best candidate to be selected, recalling that in the past some general managers have not been satisfactory. For now, attention turns to Tabriz where Esteghlal will try to regain the lead in the championship by beating a defensively organized Tractor.

The rest

As Esteghlal prepares to face Tractor, expectations are high for their performance. Akbarpour stressed that the teams' current form remains uncertain due to the international break, but he remains optimistic about Esteghlal's chances. The victory could propel Esteghlal to the top of the table, strengthening their position among the title contenders in the Persian Gulf Pro League.
