Despite England's 2-0 victory against Panama in the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, Alan Shearer pointed to the insufficient performance of Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford.
Alan Shearer, former emblematic striker of Newcastle and the England team, did not hesitate to express his disappointment after the performance of Bukayo Saka and Marcus Rashford during the third match of Group L at the 2026 World Cup between England and Panama (2-0). “I haven’t looked at the stats, but visually it’s clear that Rashford and Saka were active in the team’s play, however that wasn’t enough. What really disappointed me was the first ten minutes where we had deliberate control of the ball and I expected us to maintain that pace, but that wasn't the case,” Shearer told the BBC.

The English selection still finished at the top of Group L with seven points out of nine and qualified for the round of 16 of the tournament. Their next opponent in the 1/16 finals will be the Democratic Republic of Congo.
