Albert Riera harshly criticizes the level of the Bundesliga, comparing it to the Slovenian championship

Albert Riera, short-lived coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, was particularly critical of the Bundesliga, judging that only a handful of clubs like Bayern Munich or Borussia Dortmund managed to stand out. According to him, most of the teams at the bottom of the table display a level very close to that of the Slovenian championship, despite significantly higher budgets.
During an intervention on the Slovenian television channel Sportklub, Albert Riera, the former Spanish coach of Eintracht Frankfurt, did not mince his words on the subject of the German championship. Riera, who spent only a few months on the bench at the German club before being let go in May, said: “Frankly, the overall level of the Bundesliga has disappointed me somewhat. Bayern Munich is evolving in another dimension, and thanks to its resources, Borussia Dortmund can still compete. There are sometimes surprises like Stuttgart, but beyond that I was not impressed. »
Continuing his comparison, Riera believes that the teams playing in the second half of the table are all very similar in their style and level of play. “When you analyze these teams, you have the impression of facing the same opponent every week. It’s repetitive,” he added.

The Spaniard also insisted on the relative gap which would separate the Bundesliga from other less famous championships in Europe, such as the Slovenian League. “In Slovenia, clubs do not have the same means: in Germany, some invest 20, 30, even 40 million euros. However, the difference on the ground is not that obvious. A club like Celje could compete with Eintracht, not necessarily to win, but to fight on equal terms. The gap is much smaller than you might imagine. »
As a reminder, Albert Riera took charge of Eintracht Frankfurt in January. At the end of the season, the club finished in eighth place in the Bundesliga, which led to the premature departure of the Spanish technician.
