Antonio Rüdiger: “We are not going to cry, we must draw the right conclusions”

Rüdiger, back in the starting lineup after missing the first part of the season due to injury, asks his teammates to learn lessons and move forward. He said goodbye to Carvajal and Alaba and is expected to sign a one-year contract with Real.
Antonio Rüdiger does not want to feel sorry for himself. Asked by The Guardian about Real Madrid's white season, the German defender called for honesty and clear decisions to turn the page on a year without a major trophy.
Injured and absent for a large part of the first half of the season under Xabi Alonso, Rüdiger nevertheless regained his starting place at the heart of Madrid's defense during the second half. Despite the €60 million arrival of Dean Huijsen, the veteran regained his place but also experienced a complicated end to the season, while the defense conceded many goals.
For him, the solution is simple: take stock without dramatizing. “These things can happen, you can go two years without winning a trophy. There's a lot of noise and everything else. It's not the end of the world. You have to take the right steps, be honest with yourself, draw the right conclusions and start again for a new season. Very simple. »
Questioned more directly, Rüdiger continued: “What do you want us to do? At the end of the day, do we still have to cry about past seasons? No. Find the right conclusions and move forward, because what is lost now cannot be recovered. »
This summer, Rüdiger said goodbye to important elements of the locker room: former captain Dani Carvajal and his defensive partner David Alaba. Despite the administrative uncertainty, the player agreed to extend for one season with Real Madrid, according to the same interview. With the departure of Alaba and Carvajal, Rüdiger is expected to become the most experienced defender at Jose Mourinho's disposal.
