Why it matters
Bendegúz Kovács, a young Hungarian talent, is making a name for himself at AZ Alkmaar, a club in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. His journey, marked by challenges, testifies to his determination and his potential to reach the heights of European football. Praise from Hans Kraay junior underlines Kovács' importance for the future of the Dutch club.
Key points

- Bendegúz Kovács, Hungarian talent from Ajax, is now attracting attention at AZ Alkmaar.
- Kraay junior overtuigd van groot talent: 'Dat wordt wel wat'.
Hans Kraay junior was full of praise for Bendegúz Kovács, the young Hungarian nugget from AZ Alkmaar. Initially trained in the Netherlands, Kovács saw his dream of joining Ajax disappear in the youth categories, the Amsterdam club having decided not to retain him. But far from being discouraged, the almost two meter tall striker has forged a new path for himself in AZ, where he is starting to get noticed by local experts.
Arriving from Hungary at the age of 14, Kovács is today following an atypical path fueled by perseverance. Hans Kraay junior, a renowned Dutch consultant, remembers his very first contact with this player who was impressive in terms of his size, but also his technique. "During his debut with Jong AZ, I was surprised: what is this big guy doing up front? He looked like a rough defender from England. But as soon as he touched his first ball in the box, I saw his full potential. His left-footed play and his controls immediately revealed that he had something special," says Kraay junior.

Today, Kovács already has a few caps with Hungary and has made a string of appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie, the Dutch second division, mainly with the AZ reserve team. However, he still has to wait before establishing himself in the first team. Hans Kraay junior, however, has no doubt: with his sense of goal, his unusual size for an attacker (1m99) and his technical ability, he can aspire to a future at the top of European football.
The Alkmaar club, used to molding young talents and then exposing them to the highest level, seems to be banking on Kovács to take over in the near future. One of the star attackers, Meerdink, is already attracting the attention of big European teams and could soon leave the club. But for Kraay junior, AZ won't have to look far: "They know that Kovács is ready to impose himself. Their strategy is clear: he will be their next offensive weapon."
This trajectory, made of pitfalls and determination, illustrates AZ’s philosophy in terms of developing young talents. If Bendegúz Kovács continues his momentum, there is no doubt that he could one day realize the dream that Ajax denied him: establishing himself in a major European club.
The rest
Kovács will continue to develop his skills with the AZ reserve team, while awaiting a first team opportunity. Football observers, including Hans Kraay junior, will be closely monitoring his performances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie. If his progress continues, he could quickly become a key player for AZ and the Hungarian selection.
