Cagliari lost 4-2 to Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, but the real victory of the evening was human: Yael Trepy, 20, returned to a football field two months after his brush with death in a swimming pool accident.
The young striker distinguished himself during the summer preparation and began the official campaign by registering positive impressions during the Coppa Italia victory against Arezzo on August 14. Three days later, while enjoying some rest time in a rented villa with friends, Trepy took a bath without measuring the depth of the pool and found himself in difficulty. Rushed to hospital, he was placed in intensive care. Doctors removed fluid from his lungs and he began a long recovery process.
This journey culminated on Friday evening: Trepy went onto the field during the match during the Serie A match against Roma. Coming into play, the striker showed his instinct by immediately throwing himself towards the opposing area and almost made a comeback in style by forcing a save from Pierluigi Gollini. This moment underlined the symbolic importance of his reappearance - more than the sporting result, it is the rebirth of a player whose career had been threatened by a tragic accident.

Trained at the Cagliari training center, Trepy sees this return as a major milestone after a period of uncertainty. For the Sardinian club, the event takes on a particular value: beyond the challenges of the season and the results, Cagliari celebrated the return to life and sport of one of its hopes.
Sportingly, the evening will remain marked by the Roman victory (4-2) but also by this moment of emotion that football sometimes offers, when a local kid returns to the field after having been so close to being deprived of it. For Trepy, the road to full fitness will now continue game after game, with the support of the staff, teammates and supporters who have praised his courage and determination.
This return will obviously be closely monitored by Cagliari and observers: the club will have to manage its progress with caution so that it regains its potential without haste. In the meantime, Trepy's presence on the scoresheet against Roma was enough to offer a touch of hope in a complicated evening from an accounting standpoint.
The rest
Cagliari will now need to focus on their performances in Serie A to improve their ranking, while gradually integrating Trepy into the team. The next meeting will be crucial to assess the impact of his return on the morale of the team and on the field. Fans will hope that Trepy continues to find his rhythm and contribute to the team's efforts for the season.
