2026 World Cup: Kai Havertz apologizes after Germany's shock elimination against Paraguay

Germany will go no further in the 2026 World Cup. The Mannschaft men were eliminated in spectacular fashion in the 1/16 finals, after a 1-1 draw against Paraguay and a 4-3 defeat in the penalty shootout. Kai Havertz, star striker of this team, did not hide his disappointment after the match and wanted to apologize to the German supporters.

“I don’t even know what to say. This is my second World Cup and we failed again. The last tournaments were a disaster. The only thing I can say is: sorry,” Havertz said, according to comments reported by Bavarianfootballworks.

After a controlled group stage, where Germany finished at the top of Group E with six points, the team nevertheless failed as soon as it entered the knockout phase. It was Germany's first finals appearance since 2014.

For its part, Paraguay continues its journey and will face the winner of the duel between France and Sweden in the 1/8 finals.
