Spain continues its adventure during the 2026 World Cup after eliminating Belgium (2-1) in a competitive quarter-final. The match, played at a high pace, was marked by the intensity of the two selections, but it was La Roja who managed to pull out of the game to secure a place in the last four of the world.

Luis de la Fuente, Spanish coach, did not hide his satisfaction after this performance. “This game is a true demonstration of the character of our team, whatever the setting. I am once again particularly proud to lead a group that continues to progress and improve. We had many opportunities that could have allowed us to be more calm on the scoreboard. But winning this kind of match is always a difficult feat,” he said in comments relayed by Marca.

Facing a Belgian team renowned for its solidity and experience, Spain displayed a strong identity. Despite the challenge, La Roja was able to maintain control of the ball and be dangerous, like a united and rigorous team which created enough opportunities to take cover earlier in the game. De la Fuente's men have thus validated their ticket for the semi-finals of the competition.

This victory is the continuation of a mastered performance by the Spaniards during this 2026 World Cup, where the Iberian selection displays real ambition. However, the next challenge promises to be met: Spain will face France in the semi-final, on July 14 at 10 p.m. (Paris time), for a poster that promises to thrill football lovers. This clash will pit two of the most successful and feared countries against each other, with a place in the World Cup final in their sights.

The dynamic established by Luis de la Fuente since the start of the tournament will be put to the test against the Blues, who also have a rich and experienced squad. Supporters of both camps can already expect a very high-level clash, where the smallest detail could make the difference. Spain, with morale pumped up and driven by a desire to establish itself at the top of world football, has legitimate ambitions as this major event approaches.

The rest

Spain are now preparing for a semi-final clash against the French team on July 14. This match will be crucial to determine if La Roja can continue to advance in the tournament and aim for a title that has eluded them for several years. Expectations are high, and a victory could propel Spain to new glory on the world stage.
