Mohamed Salah found the net in Vancouver in Egypt's second group match against New Zealand. With now 68 goals in 118 caps, he is only one away from the historic record held by Hossam Hassan.
This Wednesday, during the 2nd day of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, Mohamed Salah once again shone in the Egyptian jersey. Facing New Zealand at the BC Place stadium in Vancouver (Canada), the Pharaohs were leading 3-1 at the time of writing, buoyed in particular by the performance of their captain.

Salah, scorer in the 67th minute, allowed Egypt to take a decisive advantage in this important meeting for qualification for the round of 16. This achievement is Salah's 68th in 118 caps with the national team, a figure which brings him closer to the absolute record for goals scored in Egyptian colors. This record still belongs to former striker and current coach Hossam Hassan, author of 69 goals in 176 matches played with the Pharaons.
The group stage of the tournament takes place from June 11 to 27 and each team plays three matches. The first two in each group, as well as the eight best third-placed teams, will advance to the final stages. Egypt, thanks in particular to the efficiency of Mohamed Salah, is in an ideal position to continue its journey in this 2026 World Cup.
