Craig Bellamy remains loyal to Wales after failed Burnley move

Craig Bellamy, whose name had been circulating insistently on the Burnley side, will finally continue his work as coach of Wales. This was declared by the general director of the Welsh Federation, Noel Mooney, thus confirming the full commitment of the Welsh technician to the selection.

Former assistant at Burnley alongside Vincent Kompany, Bellamy was expected to take charge of the English club, but the operation failed this Thursday. Appointed coach of Wales in July 2024, Bellamy has already marked his mandate by leading his team to the qualifying play-offs for the 2026 World Cup, where the Welsh team unfortunately failed on penalties against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

In addition to this qualifying run, Bellamy also allowed Wales to access the Nations League A, a competition which will begin for them against Portugal in September.

Noel Mooney praised the work Bellamy has done: “Craig is doing an outstanding job with us. We can't wait to start Nations League A this fall against Portugal, Denmark and Norway. We narrowly missed the World Cup, eliminated in the penalty shootout lottery, but now our focus is clearly on this new competition and Craig remains at the head of the group. »

Mooney was also reassuring about the future of the coach and the influence of recent speculation: “Craig is fully committed to his country and his project with the selection. During each discussion, he talks about the future and the progress of the group. We know there may be rumors, but he is here; we are all looking towards fall and the rest of our journey. »
