De Roon, rewarded for Atalanta's best goal: record and determination for the Dea

The prize for the best goal of the 2025/2026 Atalanta season goes to captain Marten de Roon for his powerful strike from outside the area scored against Genoa in the Coppa Italia (match won 4-0).

This goal was preferred to Lazar Samardzic's Eurogoal scored against Marseille, during Ivan Juric's last victory on the Atalantino bench. The distinction underlines the symbolic role of De Roon within the Dea: a player with a combative profile, always present in key moments.

De Roon's 2025/2026 season has been mixed. Between the change of coach and irregular results, the captain did not spare his efforts. He was particularly instrumental in the collective rise from 13th to 7th in the championship. In the match against Hellas Verona, De Roon became the player who played the most games in Atalanta's history, a record which underlines his longevity at the club.

The figures also confirm his defensive impact: among all midfielders, he is the one who has won the most defensive duels this season, with 148 victories in this area. So many elements which suggest that the former sentinel will remain a key piece when Maurizio Sarri takes his place on the Bergamo bench for the new season.

This award for the "goal of the season" rewards a season of self-sacrifice and recalls the central role of De Roon in the Atalanta squad, between leadership, consistency and decisive contributions on the pitch.
