Back to where it all began. After years of careers peppered with adventures abroad, the Amrabat brothers chose to join the Eredivisie this summer: Nordin, 39, signed for FC Utrecht, while Sofyan, 30, is presented as the new “control” of Ajax. Voetbal International went to meet them for a double interview where the secret of their longevity, their ambitions for the season and the moments that shaped their life as a footballer were discussed.
In the photo, the contrast is obvious and affectionate. “Typical,” Nordin smiled. “I’m laughing, he’s serious,” he analyzes while looking at the image captured by the photographer. Shoulders to shoulders, the two men form two perfectly conditioned athletes despite nine years apart. It has been a long time since they had been this close, they explain: after a long journey scattered in Europe and elsewhere, they are now back home.
The interview, published in VI-weekblad magazine, does not just consist of anecdotes: it also questions the daily lives of two players who claim their pleasure in playing. “We have the most beautiful job in the world,” they confide — a shared thought, reflecting the intact love for the game that took them far from Dutch fields.

Without detailing each stage of their careers, the meeting highlights the complementarity of the duo: one, more exuberant and smiling, the other, more reserved and concentrated, but united by the same passion and the same desire to transmit their experience. For their respective clubs, their return represents a contribution of experience and character to squads where youth often dominates.
This double portrait also poses sporting questions: what ambitions for Nordin in Utrecht? What exact role does Sofyan play in the Ajax environment? The answers will emerge over time, over the course of the championship matches. In the meantime, the Amrabat brothers offer a touching and lucid page on the career of a modern footballer - between travel, resilience and attachment to the roots.
