Barcelona favors a collective and measured recruitment policy, avoiding hasty decisions and separating real sporting work from media speculation. When there is consensus, the club nevertheless knows how to accelerate – like for Anthony Gordon.
According to Carlos Monfort, journalist for SPORT, the sporting management of FC Barcelona has displayed a clear and deliberate strategy in the transfer market in recent months. At a time when many clubs are acting under media pressure and in a hurry, the Catalans believe that one of their strengths has been to avoid hasty choices and to favor collective agreement before any big move.
The club's hierarchy requires that any important signing be supported by all key players: coach Hansi Flick, the sports commission, director Deco and president Joan Laporta, who supervises and validates major operations. The philosophy is simple: rather than acting quickly, Barcelona first wants to be completely convinced that a player fits into the project.
The club also insists on the need to distinguish real sporting work from the rumor which accompanies each transfer window. In recent weeks, several reports have circulated concerning meetings or contacts which, according to internal sources, never took place. Example cited: an alleged meeting between Deco and Moussa Sissoko, agent of Bradley Barcola, which gained momentum online despite the lack of factual basis.
This measured approach is, according to the club, one of the elements which has enabled the team's observed progress: Barcelona has remained competitive without carrying out massive roster changes and considers that the current project is following the right trajectory. Even though the team failed in the Copa del Rey and Champions League, beaten by the same opponent in both competitions, the internal feeling is that only small details separated them from a better fate. Stability, continuity and coherent planning are seen as the foundations for long-term success.
This does not prevent the club from accelerating when consensus exists around a priority target. Anthony Gordon is given as an example: his recruitment was carried out discreetly and quickly, with Barcelona beating several rival clubs once the collective agreement was reached.
Conversely, not all files reach this level of unanimity. The case of Alessandro Bastoni illustrates the difficulty: Hansi Flick would not be convinced by the profile, and despite prolonged discussions and favorable personal terms, management felt that no transfer should be finalized without the support of the technical staff. The same principle applies to other names mentioned around the club, such as Bernardo Silva – appreciated for his quality but never considered an absolute priority – or Marc Cucurella, whose immediate transfer was deemed unrealistic due to squad balances and the need to clear places.
In summary, Barcelona wants to maintain a stable strategy, avoid impulsive decisions and build its group through shared judgment. When this consensus exists, the club knows how to strike quickly; when it is lacking, patience remains the rule.
