Context
Lazio's new coach Gennaro Gattuso has already started to put his vision for the team in place. His management of experienced players and young talents, like Gabriele Artistico, will be decisive for Lazio's success this season. Gattuso's tactical choices, notably the move to 4-2-3-1, could influence the team's dynamics in future matches.
Why it matters
Lazio's victory against their U20 team in this friendly match is a good start for Gennaro Gattuso as he looks to establish his playing philosophy. However, the fact that the team was behind at half-time highlights the need to improve cohesion and attacking efficiency. The performance of players like Mattia Zaccagni and Tijjani Noslin, who missed chances, could impact the season if these problems persist.

Lazio began its summer preparation with a friendly match against its under-20 team, led in particular by some executives from the professional group, on Thursday evening. Under the direction of their new coach, Gennaro Gattuso, the Romans won 3-1, but the Italian coach remains aware that his team still has to improve.
Arranged in 4-2-3-1, Gattuso's players had difficulty fully entering the match since at the end of the first period, it was the young players who opened the scoring thanks to a goal from Avram who exploited a large space on the left flank. Before this goal, several clear chances had been missed by Mattia Zaccagni, Tijjani Noslin and especially Petar Ratkov, demonstrating difficulties in materializing.
Upon returning from the locker room, the technician made several changes which allowed his team to better control the game. The star of the match was striker Gabriele Artistico, a former Spezia player, whose involvement was decisive. He caused a penalty by being fouled before converting the opportunity himself to equalize. A few minutes later, it was after a foul on Fisayo Dele-Bashiru that Artistico once again showed confidence with the baton. Finally, Sana Fernandes sealed the victory late on by scoring a third goal.

Despite this success, Gennaro Gattuso remained measured in his remarks: “We must congratulate the boys who had a very good week of training. We knew it was going to be a little difficult, but there were some good things. The most important thing is that no one got hurt. We know there is a lot to improve, but the spirit and mentality are there. »
Furthermore, the medical staff noted the absence of certain executives for this first meeting. Nicolò Rovella was affected by flu symptoms and did not participate in the match, while Nuno Tavares suffers from knee inflammation, which should delay his full recovery.
This first official outing under his orders encourages Gattuso, but reminds us that the road to official competitions will be demanding. Lazio is counting on this pre-season to sharpen its automatisms and regain its level after the various summer rest phases.
The rest
With this first pre-season meeting, Gattuso has the opportunity to fine-tune his team before the start of the official season. The next few weeks will be crucial to work on finishing and defensive solidity, especially with friendly matches coming up. Lazio will also have to monitor the physical condition of its players to avoid injuries before important competitions.
