Ginestra crowns Ascoli: “A team with a recognizable game, a well-deserved promotion”

He also believes that Union Brescia remains a credible candidate to bounce back and calls for more financial rigor for Serie C.
Ciro Ginestra spoke on TuttoMercatoWeb radio to comment on Ascoli's triumph in the Serie C play-off final against Union Brescia and share his analysis of the season.
On the promotion of Ascoli, Ginestra does not hide his admiration: “Absolutely yes. I think it's a deserved promotion for what we saw in the two matches of the final, especially in the second, which, in my opinion, was dominated. Ascoli has completed an important journey. »
The former coach recalls that he faced Ascoli last season and praises the club's playing identity: “I always said, also when I faced them, that it is the most recognizable team of the three groups. It's a team that has a lot of quality, a very good coach and an important place, with a stadium that's always full and incredible passion. »
Ginestra also defends the value of Group B of Serie C, often underestimated: “Many think that Group B is less difficult, but for me it is the most complicated because we play the most football there. Ascoli demonstrated it. » He cites names of young people promoted by the club, such as D'Uffizi (2004), and believes that Ascoli would probably have deserved the title during the regular season.

Regarding Union Brescia, beaten in the final, Ginestra considers it capable of getting back on track: “Yes. A team that goes all the way to the play-off final inevitably has a large squad. They have a great coach like Eugenio Corini, who I know very well since he was also my coach. » According to him, if the club digests this defeat, it can return as a credible candidate for promotion.
On Ascoli's needs for the next season in Serie B, Ginestra tempers expectations: “Ascoli starts from a very important base: it has a clear and recognizable playing identity. There are valid players suited to this style. Naturally, we will have to intervene because Serie B requires more structure and physics. But many of the current players can absolutely play in B. The key will be to find the right recruits to insert into an already well-defined system. »
Asked about the relative failure of historic clubs eliminated in the semi-finals, such as Salernitana and Catania, Ginestra avoids the term “bankruptcy”: “This word is perhaps too strong, but for the history and ambitions of these clubs, the season did not meet expectations. In Serie C only one team wins and in the play-off a mistake can compromise everything. These clubs have the resources to come back and fight for the top. »
Finally, the coach speaks on the structural problems of Serie C, mentioning recurring exclusions and penalties: “We must first check that the clubs which register have the necessary resources to complete the season. It's not just a sporting issue: there are players, coaches and families who make a living from this work. It’s better to prioritize quality over quantity, even if it means having fewer teams. »
On his personal situation and possible offers, Ginestra confirms some contacts but nothing concrete for the moment: “A few discussions, that's normal. I have just had an important year and a half... Now I have to find the project that will allow us to continue growing. For the moment there is nothing concrete, so I remain attentive with my staff. »
