Milan fans announce “unprecedented” demonstration against Gerry Cardinale

AC Milan ultras have called on supporters to “prepare” for an “unprecedented” demonstration against American owner Gerry Cardinale, in a statement cited by the international press.

The anger of the fans follows the combined failure of the season: Milan said goodbye to the Champions League after a 2-1 defeat at San Siro on the last day, against Cagliari, which sealed its fate. Protests had already taken place before, notably to demand the departure of general manager Giorgio Furlani.

The situation worsened further when Cardinale sacked coach Max Allegri as well as sporting director Igli Tare, technical director Geoffrey Moncada and Furlani. These decisions, however, did not calm the supporters, especially since Zlatan Ibrahimovic, appointed special advisor, seems to have obtained more prerogatives according to the Curva Sud. To date, none of the key positions in sports management have been filled.

In a long official statement, the Curva Sud group expressed its fed up: “While OUR club is sinking into the abyss between improvisation and headhunters, with all the key managerial roles still empty (it is no wonder that everyone is now hesitant to accept a contract with Milan), there is a city, a group of supporters, a population that no longer sleeps at night because of these owners who consume the passion for the jersey and this club glorious. »

The message goes on to criticize the owners' strategy: "There is no better way to reach someone who only cares about appearances, to increase revenue and develop the brand to the detriment of Milan's sporting results, than to damage their image. The owners are absent, trying to impose their nauseating version of football through their few chosen media, and must be insulted wherever they go in the world, so that they understand that the fans will not tolerate this situation. »

La Curva Sud assures that a large protest movement is planned: “Many are asking us for a large demonstration: WE can assure you that these supporters have always responded strong and united each time we had to prove something (just think of last year). It's going to be a long summer, and the worst is yet to come. With civic-mindedness, determination and passion, we must give them no respite. We ask all supporters to prepare, because when the time comes to demonstrate, social media will not be enough and an unprecedented rally will have to be organized. »

The group finally recalls that Milan belongs above all to its fans and deplores the transformation of the club into a "private company without values ​​or identity", while warning of the absence of managers capable of leading a coherent transfer window: while other clubs are already working on recruitment, the Rossoneri have no one in place to negotiate or define the construction of the future squad.

This announcement marks a rise in tensions between the most radical fringe of Milan supporters and the new management of the club, already shaken by a disappointing season and numerous changes behind the scenes.
