Liverpool have made initial inquiries about Bruno Guimarães, but no concrete file or proposal has yet been made, with Newcastle not wishing to sell at the moment.
Liverpool recently launched an inquiry about Bruno Guimarães, but for the moment it is neither a formal offer nor an advanced file, says journalist Ben Jacobs on Redmen TV. “There has been information from the player side regarding Bruno Guimarães, and we know that, in the last 24/48 hours, it is Arsenal who have really put a number on his head,” explained Jacobs.
The journalist adds that Liverpool simply spoke with the player's agent, similar to what Manchester United did several months ago: "Liverpool just did what Manchester United did months ago, they spoke with the agent and that was it. So I'm not aware that they are pushing further." Jacobs also believes that the Reds could favor a younger profile in their search for a midfielder.
Newcastle's position remains a key factor. The club from the north-east coast does not seem willing to part with its flagship, especially as the transfer window has already brought liquidity: Anthony Gordon was sold to Barça for 69.3 million pounds, which somewhat eases the financial pressure on the club. The future of Sandro Tonali remains uncertain, but that is not enough to convince Newcastle to let go of Guimarães now.
Arriving from Olympique Lyonnais in January 2022, Bruno Guimarães has established himself as a centerpiece of Eddie Howe: more than 150 appearances in the Premier League and 30 goals on the clock, underlines the article. A Brazilian international, his calendar is also influenced by international deadlines, with the World Cup adding additional complexity to the timing of a possible transfer.
From Liverpool's point of view, this approach looks more like a market check than a decisive offensive. Guimarães is a midfielder already confirmed in the Premier League, under contract for two more seasons and who would require a significant transfer. “Guimarães is not just a name being thrown around this summer,” comments Jacobs: technically comfortable, aggressive in duels and capable of maintaining the pace of a top midfielder, he ticks a lot of boxes for clubs seeking control and authority at the heart of the game.
At the moment, there is no strong indication that a transfer is imminent. Unless there is a desire expressed by the player or a notable opening from Newcastle, the file seems blocked. Arsenal appears, according to the information reported, as the most concrete offer at this stage, while Liverpool's role remains exploratory: the club is scrutinizing the upper market of midfielders without fully committing at the moment.
