Manchester City have signed a deal to transfer left-back Niamh Charles from Chelsea. After six years and 173 appearances for the Blues, Charles joins the Citizens to bring WSL and Champions League experience as City strengthen their squad ahead of European competitions and next season.
Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign English defender Niamh Charles from Chelsea. The left-back thus ends a cycle of six seasons at Stamford Bridge, where she played 173 matches with the club.
During her time with the Blues, Charles racked up titles: five Women's Super League championships, four FA Cups and three League Cups. She was also part of the squad led by Emma Hayes that reached the Women's Champions League final in 2021.

Charles' departure comes at a time when Manchester City are already strengthening their left wing: Republic of Ireland Katie McCabe joined the club from Arsenal last month. City, crowned WSL champions in May – their first league title in ten years – are looking to expand their squad to compete on the European stage next season.
The Citizens are also expected in the market to sign English striker Beth Mead, free after her departure from Arsenal last month. Charles' arrival would bring WSL and Champions League experience, while the player herself is aiming for more regular playing time in order to consolidate her place in the England squad led by Sarina Wiegman ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
No financial information has been disclosed for the transfer, and the terms (official date of signing, duration of the contract) have not yet been specified by the clubs.
