Manchester United part ways with Jadon Sancho: end of journey for the English winger and two other free departures

Manchester United ends the adventure of Jadon Sancho, who leaves the free club after only 83 matches in the red jersey. Casemiro and Tyrell Malacia are also among the departures without compensation, marking a financial turning point for the Red Devils.
Manchester United have just announced the end of Jadon Sancho's adventure at Old Trafford. Arriving for 85 million euros five years ago, the English winger sees his contract expire without extension, the club having chosen not to activate the option for an additional year. This decision ends a spell tinged with disappointment for Sancho, who only played 83 games with the Red Devils, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists. This is one of the most expensive transfers United have ever made.
Over the past two and a half seasons, Sancho has been regularly loaned out: first to Borussia Dortmund, then to Chelsea and finally to Aston Villa. Since August 2023, he has only worn the Manchester club jersey once, during the 2024 Community Shield. His last Premier League match with United dates back almost three years, before a dispute with Erik ten Hag, then coach of the team. Sidelined after a media altercation, Sancho finally found Dortmund on loan in January 2024.

Notably, the English winger has played in European finals with three different clubs over the last three seasons: the Champions League with Dortmund, then the Conference League won with Chelsea and Aston Villa. Despite everything, neither Chelsea, who paid a penalty of 5 million euros to free themselves from a purchase option, nor Aston Villa, where he started on only nine occasions, seem to want to keep him. Dortmund, for their part, have expressed interest in Sancho returning again this summer.
This transfer window also marks the free departure of other major players: Casemiro, who arrived for 75 million euros from Real Madrid, leaves the club with 26 goals in 160 matches and a central role in the third place obtained this season in the Premier League. It is also the end of the adventure for Tyrell Malacia, recruited for 14 million euros by Ten Hag, but who only played 11 matches in the last three seasons – after 39 appearances in his first year.
These decisions illustrate a turning point in the sporting and financial management of Manchester United as the next financial year approaches.
