Martin Demichelis leaves Mallorca for RB Leipzig despite recent renewal

Martin Demichelis has had a dramatic turn in his career. Just two weeks after extending his contract with Mallorca until 2028, and even though the club had just been relegated to the Segunda División, the former Argentine defender decided to turn the Spanish page to embark on a new adventure in the Bundesliga.

This decision is surprising given the context: Mallorca, after its descent, had recently shown its confidence in Demichelis, who himself declared at the end of May that he wanted to stay to "do a full season" and said he was happy within the club. However, the facts quickly contradicted these initial intentions.

According to the Spanish and German press, Demichelis would be tipped to take the helm of RB Leipzig, a German club which is considering a change of coach after a solid season crowned with a third place in the Bundesliga and qualification for the Champions League.

The recruitment of Demichelis would also be strongly supported by Jürgen Klopp, also former coach of Borussia Dortmund and current coach of Liverpool FC, himself linked to RB Leipzig. Klopp would have encountered difficulties with Ole Werner, the current coach of the Saxon club, which would have accelerated the search for a new coaching profile.

This position would represent an important leap in the career of Demichelis, who knows German football well, having successfully worn the colors of Bayern Munich as a player, with 11 trophies won, and also as a coach within the youth sector of the Bavarian club.

To make this transfer a reality, it remains to agree on the amount of the release clause, estimated at around three million euros, which RB Leipzig will have to pay to Mallorca.

This transition marks a radical change in the professional career of Martin Demichelis, who is embarking on a major new challenge in Germany, hoping to quickly establish himself in the Bundesliga.
