Roma target Mason Greenwood suggests he favors Fenerbahçe

Mason Greenwood, targeted by AS Roma, visibly sent a very clear signal in the direction of Turkey. According to Turkish media, the player reached an agreement on his personal terms with Hakan Safi, candidate for the presidency of Fenerbahçe, and then started following the latter on Instagram, a gesture interpreted as a hint in favor of a transfer to the Istanbul club.

The financial situation of his club weighs on this transfer window: the article mentions that the Olympique de Marseille winger is up for sale this summer, with the club having to replenish its accounts before the end of June. Gian Piero Gasperini, now linked to the Roman track, has never hidden his interest in the former Manchester United player, who would correspond to the offensive role sought in his 3-4-3 scheme.

The main obstacle remains the asking price. Roma would have made a first offer of around 40 million euros, including bonuses, an amount still far from the 50 million euros requested. According to Corriere dello Sport, Gasperini even tried to convince Greenwood by speaking to him directly, without however bending the financial demands. The high price is partly explained by a clause linked to the previous operation: Olympique de Marseille should pay half of the sum to Manchester United according to the published information.

Fenerbahçe would seem ready to outbid, both on the amount of the transfer and on the personal conditions offered to the player. If the information reported by Turkish specialist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu is confirmed, Roma will have to look for other alternatives to strengthen their attack this summer.

It remains to be seen how the file will evolve in the days to come, between formal offers, negotiations and player decisions. For now, Greenwood's Instagram clue fuels speculation and complicates Roma's race to secure his signature.
