Mexico won 1-0 against South Korea thanks to a goal from Luis Romo (50th) and ensured their qualification for the knockout phase as first in Group A.
On May 18, at the Akron stadium in Zapopan, the 2nd day of Group A of the 2026 World Cup between Mexico and South Korea was held. The Mexican team won the match with a score of 1-0.
The only goal came in the 50th minute: Mexican defender Luis Romo took advantage of a big mistake by the South Korean goalkeeper to open the scoring. The match was refereed by a team led by Gustavo Tejera (Uruguay).

Thanks to this success, Mexico was guaranteed after two matches to finish at the top of Group A and qualify for the knockout phase of the 2026 World Cup.
