2026 World Cup: Manzambi scores a double and Switzerland outclasses Bosnia-Herzegovina

Switzerland took a serious option for qualification for the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup after its big victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina (4-1) on Thursday, during the group stage. However, the first period did not excite the spectators with very few clear chances (only 0.24 xG according to Squawka), one of the least lively halves of the tournament so far.

Everything settled in the last third of the match. Entering the game in the 71st minute, Johan Manzambi only needed three minutes to make the difference. Following a cross from Rubén Vargas that was poorly cleared by Amar Memić, the Swiss striker jumped to regain the ball with a magnificent volley (74th, 1-0). The situation became complicated for Bosnia-Herzegovina after the direct exclusion of Tarik Muharemović, guilty of a gross foul on Breel Embolo when he was the last defender.

In numerical superiority, Switzerland pressed where it hurts: Rubén Vargas completed a cross to the line to double the lead (2-0, 80th). Manzambi then scored twice at the very end of the match (90th), before Granit Xhaka converted a penalty in added time to make the score 4-1. Bosnia-Herzegovina will save the honor by Ermin Mahmić (86th), without consequence on the Helvetian domination.

Thanks to this clear success, Switzerland takes the lead in Group B (4 points) and prepares to face Canada in Vancouver in the third and final group match (June 24, 9 p.m. French time). For its part, Bosnia-Herzegovina will have to get back on track against Qatar in Seattle.
