Madrid's success, obtained away from home, puts an end to Barcelona's invincibility in the league and reduces the gap in the standings to three points.
After the match, coach José Mourinho did not hide his satisfaction with the collective performance of his team. “I think it was a very great match, high quality. Fans from all over the world stopped to watch this match and they were not disappointed,” he said, before emphasizing the attitude of his players: “They played extraordinary. They were well organized, concentrated and showed a strong personality by building from the back against the opposing pressure. »
Mourinho praised his group's tactical balance and ability to exploit the spaces left by Barca's high defense: “We took advantage of the spaces behind their high defense and used Mbappé's speed. It's a very deserved victory. » He also commented on the performance of Kylian Mbappé and the midfielders: “We had the opportunity to increase the score, Bellingham and Mbappé combined at the start of the second half without realizing anything. »
The Portuguese coach also criticized the video refereeing: “The referee directed the match well, but the VAR slept in the 60th minute in a situation that could change the result. It was clearly red for João Cancelo's entry on Yan Diomande. »

In terms of choices, Mourinho explained his management of players: he mentioned Bernardo Silva, Eduardo Camavinga, Tchouaméni, and the case of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, recalling that Lunin “played in a calm and balanced manner”. He underlined the depth of the group: “I will never say that there is an irrevocable standard team. We have a lot of quality and high level replacements. »
He mentioned the commitment of Federico Valverde, who played more than 40 minutes despite a physical problem: “Valverde gave everything, he pushed his limits and contributed a lot. » Mourinho also paid tribute to the spirit of the group and the solidarity between starters and substitutes, citing the example of Asensio who came to support the team from the bench after an operation.
Tactically, the match highlighted the risks of Barça's high pressing: despite 62% possession and more attempts, Barça was less effective than Real, who had a higher xG (1.95 versus 1.19).
