Newcastle reject £75m offer from Tottenham for Sandro Tonali, Manchester City remain on the lookout

Newcastle United has just rejected an offer of 75 million pounds (around 88 million euros) presented by Tottenham to secure the services of Sandro Tonali. The approach of Spurs, recently led by Roberto De Zerbi, is the first concrete offensive in a very eventful transfer window around the Italian international.

The management of Newcastle, represented by sporting director Hugo Viana, is sticking to its guns and expecting an amount close to 100 million pounds to release its player, pillar of the team under the orders of Eddie Howe and still under contract until 2029. Manchester City and Arsenal, very interested, continue to monitor the file closely, while Manchester United withdrew from the race.

According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, this initial offer from Spurs is very far from the expectations of Newcastle, who wish to retain maximum negotiating room given the strategic value of Tonali. Tottenham, motivated by De Zerbi's personal interest in the player, is seriously considering returning to the charge with an upwardly revised proposal in the coming weeks.

The discussions take place in a context where Manchester City, plagued by uncertainties regarding the future of several elements (Rodri, Mateo Kovacic, Nico Gonzalez, Tijjani Reijnders, etc.), is considering a simultaneous offensive for Tonali and Elliot Anderson. The outcome of the case will also depend on the contractual fate of Rodri, the extension of which remains pending.
