Filip Kostic, in particular, was highlighted for his below-expectations performance against Club Brugge. His ability to contain speedy attackers like Carlos Forbs will be crucial for PSV, especially in their Champions League campaign, where every match can influence their qualification for the knockout stages.
Why it matters
PSV's defeat against Club Brugge in the Champions League has significant repercussions on their season. With a disappointing performance, especially from Filip Kostic, the team must now re-evaluate their strategy to remain competitive in this prestigious competition. The ability to perform at home is crucial to the club's future in the Champions League group stage.
Key points
- PSV in the report: a clear dissonance during an evening.
- PSV lost 1-2 in Eindhoven against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
- PSV op Rapport: één duidelijke dissonant op vervelende CL-avond tegen Club.
An evening to forget for PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. The Dutch lost 1-2 to Club Bruges at home, and the home team suffered mainly against a specific threat: Carlos Forbs. The Belgian club's winger found himself in considerable space, knew how to use his speed and made life very complicated for the defense and his opposing full-backs.
It is precisely on this axis that the report notes a clear weakness: Filip Kostic failed to contain his opposite number and was deprived of control over Carlos Forbs. Direct consequence in the individual evaluation of the match, the Serbian international receives the score of 5, the lowest among the evening starters. This rating reflects a performance below expectations, marked by difficulties in duels and a lack of defined offensive impact on this meeting.
In the rest of the scoresheet, goalkeeper Matej Kovár gets a 6, equivalent to a correct performance nothing more. In defense, Sergiño Dest scores a 7 and Lutsharel Geertruida stands out with a 7.5, the best rating among defenders — a sign that he has brought more stability and presence. Armando Obispo is credited with a 6.5, while Kodai Sano receives a 7 in the middle.

Further up the pitch, Mauro Júnior and Ivan Perisic share a 6.5, as does Guus Til. Sven Mijnans is also appreciated at 6.5. The second part of the match saw changes: Esmir Bajraktarevic came on in the 84th minute for Kostic, Mikkel Bro Hansen took Mijnans' place in the 90th, and Ricardo Pepi replaced Ruben van Bommel in the 69th. Ruben van Bommel and Peter Bosz are, as stated in the report, rated 6 and 6 respectively for the coach.
In the end, the individual results reflect an evening where a defensive flaw and an exposed corridor were exploited by the opponent. Club Bruges, driven by the speed and the spaces offered, took advantage of this to leave Eindhoven with the three points. For PSV, it will be necessary to correct the wing coverage and aggressiveness on fast players in order to avoid this type of problem recurring during the next European matches.
