Rodri, targeted this summer by Real Madrid, would have finally opted for Barcelona. The player's agent confirmed that the midfielder had thanked Real before announcing his decision.
Why it matters
Rodri's choice to join FC Barcelona rather than Real Madrid could have significant repercussions on the transfer market this summer. As a leading midfielder, his arrival at Barcelona would significantly strengthen the team, especially as the club seeks to reposition itself at the top of the Spanish football hierarchy. It could also influence other moves in the market, as LaLiga clubs look to strengthen their squads.

Several sources indicate that the transaction to Barcelona is very advanced and that the player has finally chosen Catalonia rather than the Spanish capital. Rodri's agent, quoted by El Larguero via Diario AS, confirmed the reality of the situation and described the relationship between the different parties. He explained that Rodri was "sincerely grateful" for the interest and respect shown by Real Madrid during the two weeks of negotiations, and that Madrid's management - from the president to the executives - had done everything possible to convince the player.

According to this same story, Real even made an offer presented as “difficult to refuse”. Despite this, and out of consideration for the club, Rodri and his representative contacted Madrid management last night to thank them and inform them of the player's decision to move elsewhere, in order to avoid any unnecessary movement and "any drama". These personal calls would demonstrate a desire to ensure a respectful exit from the file between the parties.
The article also details the reasons which would have pushed Rodri towards Barcelona. If the Madrid project promised a more prominent role, the Catalan style of play, focused on possession, would better suit the midfielder's profile. The proximity to Spanish internationals already present in the Barcelona squad and, according to reports, the influence of certain players around the club would have facilitated the decision.
Finally, the press evokes reactions on the Real side: some observers report strong disappointment and wonder if the Madrid club will relaunch the midfield transfer window after this setback. The Rodri series is therefore not officially over, but the latest information gives the advantage to FC Barcelona in an operation which will have animated the end of the summer transfer window.
The rest
With Rodri's transfer to Barcelona apparently well advanced, it is likely that the Catalan club will focus on finalizing contract details in the coming days. Meanwhile, Real Madrid will have to reassess their priorities in the transfer market and could consider other options to strengthen their midfield. LaLiga fans will be watching this situation closely, as it could redefine the dynamic between these two giants of Spanish football.
