England fan quits job to follow England to World Cup: 'He had to'

Based in Texas for the start of the World Cup, Ben King gave up his job as a cook in order to stay longer and encourage the England team. With his friends Joe and Sam Parrott, he laments the cost of tickets, which prevented them from attending certain matches.
Ben King, 27, has decided to quit his job as a chef to extend his stay in the United States and support the England team at the World Cup. Asked about his decision, he summed up his motivation with a simple “I had to,” as he and his friends sang the praises of the Three Lions.
Based in Portsmouth, Mr. King said he found a new job three months ago, which allowed him to stay in Texas until after the opening match against Croatia before returning to his duties. “I once quit a job to come here. I was supposed to come home yesterday, but I quit my job, got a new job three months ago and now I'm coming home after the England game. So yes, I left him and was able to stay a little longer. It had to be. I considered staying a little longer but I can't because of work, otherwise I would,” he added.

His friend Joe Parrott, 28, said from Billy Bob's bar in the Dallas-Fort Worth area that it was even possible they wouldn't make it back at all: "The problem is, we might not make it back. We could stay here all our lives. » But enthusiasm hits the wallet: Joe called the ticket prices “outrageous”. The three friends gave up trying to attend the Argentina-Austria match at AT&T Stadium due to the cost of tickets.
Flights, however, were not the most expensive item according to them: “Tickets for matches are a shame, the price you pay for seats. The flights are what they are — I think we paid about £900, which is expensive but not outrageous — but the tickets are outrageous,” said Joe Parrott. His brother Sam, 25, said: “The cost of living here has been OK, it’s just the ticket prices that are the problem. »
Convinced of the potential of his selection, Joe even predicted a final victory for England and regretted the impact of the resale market: “The resale of tickets does not facilitate access to matches. We were thinking of going to Argentina but the prices dissuaded us. If we compare to the World Cup in Qatar and previous editions, it was not as expensive before. »
