Van Bronckhorst returns as Feyenoord head coach

Feyenoord have confirmed the return of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as head coach, on a two-season contract with an option for a further year. He succeeds Robin van Persie and thus begins a second period at the head of the Rotterdam club.

Van Bronckhorst knows Feyenoord well having already been coach there between 2015 and 2019. During this first stint he managed the team 176 times in all competitions, with a record of 107 wins, 26 draws and 43 defeats, a success rate of 60.8%. It was under his leadership that Feyenoord won the Eredivisie title in 2016-2017 and lifted the KNVB Cup twice.

Having become a man of the house, Van Bronckhorst also wore the Feyenoord jersey as a player: trained at the club in 1982, he made his debut for the first team during the 1994-95 season. He then joined Glasgow Rangers at the start of the 1998-99 season before returning to Feyenoord in 2007, where he ended his career at the end of the 2009-10 season.

Before this return, the 51-year-old Dutchman joined Arne Slot's staff at Liverpool, and his last position as manager dates back to Besiktas, where he only stayed five months between June and November 2024.

With this choice, Feyenoord is banking on the technician's experience and his attachment to the club to relaunch its national and European ambitions.
