Brighton sign Luka Vuskovic for record fee of £46m

Brighton have completed the record transfer of Luka Vuskovic for £46 million, with payments reaching up to 50 million. The young defender who passed through Hamburg will join the club after the World Cup.
Brighton & Hove Albion formalized this Thursday the arrival of Croatian defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur, for a record fee in the club's history estimated at £46 million. This transaction could even reach 50 million if certain bonuses are activated.
The very promising 19-year-old defender will undergo his medical examination once Croatia's campaign at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is over. The Croatian team will face Portugal in the round of 32 on the night of Thursday to Friday, British time.

Originally from Split, Vuskovic cut his teeth at the academy of local club Hajduk, where he became the youngest player to play in the Croatian top division at just 16 years old, while scoring his first goals at that level.
In September 2023, he signed a pre-contract with Tottenham, formalizing his transfer scheduled for 2025. Despite the absence of a Premier League debut with Spurs, Vuskovic distinguished himself last season during a loan to the German club Hamburg, with 30 matches and 6 goals in the Bundesliga, which made him one of the most prominent central defenders in Europe.
He replaces Jan Paul van Hecke in the Brighton squad led by Fabian Hürzeler. In an ironic exchange, Van Hecke goes in the opposite direction, Tottenham having paid 52 million pounds to secure the services of the Dutch international, under contract until 2025 with Brighton.
