Context
Dean James, 23, is a product of Dutch football and has already experienced ups and downs with the Go Ahead Eagles. His experience in the Eredivisie and his development journey as a player will be vital in navigating the increased competition at his position. The team dynamic could also be influenced by Galvez's performance, which makes the situation even more interesting.
Why it matters
The departure of Aske Adelgaard to FC Twente opens an opportunity for Dean James to assert himself as the indisputable starter at left back for the Go Ahead Eagles. After a difficult season marred by injuries and administrative issues, James is determined to bounce back and prove his worth at an Eredivisie club. His ability to overcome these challenges could be crucial to the team's development this season.

- Dean James remains central to Go Ahead Eagles' plans.
While Aske Adelgaard left Go Ahead Eagles to join FC Twente this summer, Dean James once again finds himself in the number one position on the left flank of the defense. The left back from Leiden does not expect to follow the same path as his Danish competitor last season and intends to establish himself as the indisputable starter.
James saw Adelgaard leave, but saw the arrival of a new strong competitor with Tomas Galvez, a young player on loan from Manchester City and through Cambuur. "I didn't know him very well at first, I had heard about his time at Manchester City and his one and a half year stint at Cambuur, but I had never seen him play. Now I have met him. He is starting to train with the group, but he still needs to get better," James explains in an interview with VI PRO.

The 23-year-old full-back, however, seems well on his way to being coach Joseph Oosting's first choice on the left side. Despite a promising start to the season last season, James admits to having had a difficult year, in particular because of an injury and a passport affair which disrupted the team. "I have to be honest, last season wasn't my best. It started well, but then there was the passport thing, then an injury. Plus, our team was struggling, we were underperforming one after another. It's football, you have to accept that. I want to look forward and have a good season this time."
Under contract for another two years with Go Ahead Eagles, James is in no hurry to leave his club. "Every player has ambitions, but you also have to show what you are worth before taking a step forward. I feel good here, in my place. If something comes up, we will think about it. My main objective is to play as much as possible and show my qualities."
The new challenge for Dean James is therefore clear: turn the page on last season and regain his best level to establish himself sustainably at Go Ahead Eagles. With his determination and the arrival of Galvez as a competitor, the battle will rage on the left lane of the Eagles defense.
The rest
With the arrival of Tomas Galvez, on loan from Manchester City, competition for the left-back position is intensifying. James will have to demonstrate his superiority during training and matches to retain his starting place. The club and supporters will closely monitor its development, especially in the context of the transfer market which could further evolve before the end of the summer window.
