Gernot Trauner leaves Feyenoord for good: “I am infinitely grateful”

Gernot Trauner will not return to the Feyenoord jersey. His expired contract was not renewed, thus formalizing his departure from the club. The Austrian central defender announced the news himself via his social networks, expressing his gratitude to the club and its supporters.

“I want to thank you all for your incredible support throughout this journey,” he wrote. “I am infinitely grateful for all the experiences I have had here and for all the wonderful people I have met along the way. »

Arriving in 2021 from LASK Linz, Trauner quickly established himself as a valuable element for the Rotterdam-South team, accumulating a total of 137 matches in the colors of the club. Nicknamed “Kale Kletser” in reference to his baldness, the defender saw his playing time reduced last season, notably due to injuries, but found a starting place in the last four championship matches.

His departure was welcomed by the supporters present during the last away day against PEC Zwolle, where fans paid tribute to him.

In his message, Trauner remembers the highlights he had on and off the pitch: “The countless special moments on and off the pitch will remain forever engraved in my memory. The European nights at De Kuip and across Europe, the celebrations after winning the league title and the Cup, and every interaction with you, the fans. »

He also confides his deep attachment to the club: “I will miss playing at De Kuip, hearing (and singing) the songs of Feyenoord, spending time at 1908. I arrived as a player, but I leave as a fan. This club has become a part of my life and always will be. I understood what Feyenoord means to the people of Rotterdam, and I am very proud to have represented this club on the pitch. »

As for his future, it remains uncertain: “A new chapter awaits my family and me. We don't know what the future holds, but we will always be grateful for these five years in Rotterdam. »
