Abandoned Liverpool star finally ready to make a comeback

A twist in Liverpool: a player who has been sidelined for a long time could find a real opportunity this summer. Harvey Elliott, left on the sidelines last season, returns to the club and will aim for a place in the first team under a new manager. According to the information reported, Arne Slot has left the club and Andoni Iraola is expected to succeed him, although the Spanish technician had not yet signed at the time of publication.

The staff change resets everyone, which is good news for some players who didn't have a chance under Slot. This is especially true for Elliott. The attacking midfielder had only played two games as a starter during Liverpool's title-winning season – and those starts came after winning the title. His fall was all the more notable as he played an important role under Jürgen Klopp at the end of the German's tenure.

The 2025/26 season has turned into a nightmare for Elliott. Left on loan to Aston Villa, he hardly played: the club did not wish to activate the stipulated clause and the Englishman only totaled 112 Premier League minutes over the entire season. Liverpool failed to carry out a recall in January, leaving the player virtually without solutions and causing the English talent to lose a valuable season.

The return to Liverpool this summer therefore represents a real window of reconstruction for Elliott. He will try to convince the new coach – probably Iraola – to give him playing time. Slot had not given him the opportunity to impose himself; the arrival of a new coach can change everything if the latter places Elliott in the same light as Klopp had done before.

At his best, Elliott demonstrated that he could make a difference. This summer he will have the opportunity to prove that he deserves a place in the Liverpool project and turn a lost season into a new start.
