Fulham formalizes the arrival of Álvaro Arbeloa as new coach

It's official: Fulham opens a new chapter by entrusting its future to Álvaro Arbeloa. The Spanish technician, former Real Madrid figure, takes the reins of the London club following the departure of Marco Silva to Benfica at the start of summer. Arbeloa has signed a three-season contract, tying him to Craven Cottage until the summer of 2029.

The arrival of the 43-year-old technician comes after a rapid rise in the Real Madrid hierarchy. First in charge of the youth teams, Arbeloa distinguished himself by winning several titles within the Madrid academy, including a national and European treble with the U19s. His success earned him promotion to manager of Real Madrid Castilla, before taking charge of the first team during the second half of the season, succeeding Xabi Alonso. During this short stint, he led the club to second place in La Liga and had a notable run in the Champions League, notably eliminating Manchester City before losing against Bayern Munich.

At Fulham, the departure of Marco Silva marked the end of a cycle after five years of stability and several stays in the Premier League. Management took the time to study different profiles, but Arbeloa emerged as the ideal candidate thanks to his offensive philosophy, his long-term project and his ability to focus on youth. “It is an honor to begin this new chapter with Fulham FC. I feel a great responsibility and am very grateful to Mr Khan and Tony Khan for the trust placed in them,” said the new coach.

Club owner Shahid Khan was full of praise for Arbeloa, highlighting his ambition, his commitment to developing young talent and his vision for the game. Tony Khan, sports manager, insisted on the Spanish manager's determination to succeed in the Premier League.

On a player level, Arbeloa has a prestigious international record, with two Champions Leagues, a La Liga title, a FIFA World Cup and two Euros with the Spanish selection, without forgetting his stints with Liverpool and West Ham in England.

Arbeloa's debut at Fulham will be closely scrutinized, especially as the first meeting of the season pits the Cottagers against Chelsea, now managed by his former Real Madrid teammate, Xabi Alonso. A symbolic confrontation full of promise to launch the new era at Craven Cottage.
