Juventus: it's really over with Thiago Motta, early termination with compensation

Juventus will proceed in June 2026 with the early termination of Thiago Motta's contract, which ran until 2027. The information, reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, indicates that the club will activate the planned clause and settle a severance payment lower than the 3.5 million euros net corresponding to the salary. On an accounting level, Vecchia Signora will also find a saving on the gross cost.

The decision is part of the internal reorganization carried out at Continassa: after the departure of Scanavino and Giuntoli, the new managing director Comolli will assume responsibility for liquidating the contract of the Italian-Brazilian coach. The choice of the family led by John Elkann is clear: despite relegation to the Europa League following a sixth place finish under Luciano Spalletti, the club shows its confidence in the current technician and extends it until 2028.

The recent missteps against Fiorentina and Torino were fatal for Motta, in a dynamic reminiscent of 2025, when the coach was dismissed in March and replaced by Tudor, author of a rescue in C1 at the last minute. This time, Elkann wanted to avoid a new “year zero” and stabilize the organization chart: Juventus thus returned to the “normality” of a single paid coach, putting an end to the period where the club simultaneously paid Spalletti, Motta and Tudor (the latter having had a brief stint at Tottenham before De Zerbi).

Thiago Motta, who spent a year and a half in Cascais between motorcycle rides and training trips to the Premier League and La Liga, has rejected several proposals in recent months. According to the report, he is now ready to relaunch his career, but his starting point remains uncertain.

On a sporting and financial level, the maneuver should allow Juventus to clarify its payroll and focus the club's confidence in Spalletti, while freeing Thiago Motta from his contractual commitments to allow him to find a new destination.
